Cheryl posts tribute to Caroline Flack and says she 'just wanted to be understood'

Cheryl has shared a moving tribute to Caroline Flack after the ex Love Island host took her own life last week.

Taking to Instagram last night, Cheryl reposted the unreleased Instagram post Caroline's family shared on Wednesday.

In her statement, which Caroline wrote just weeks before she died and was told not to post by her advisors, she said she wasn't a domestic abuser and claimed her alleged assault on her boyfriend Lewis Burton had been an accident.

An emotional Cheryl shared screenshots of the post in full, explaining that she wanted people to see it because Caroline "just wanted to be understood".

The pair worked together when Caroline hosted The X Factor in 2015 and Cheryl was on the judging panel.

The singer wrote: "She just wanted to be heard.. /listened to / understood ... Here is an intended Instagram post Caroline wrote on the 30th of January but was advised not to post.

"Her family decided to share it today bc she so desperately just wanted to get it out."

Cheryl finished her post with the hashtag #bekind, which has gone viral since Caroline passed away.

In her unreleased post Caroline spoke about how her world had been turned upside down by her arrest.

She wrote: "I have always taken responsibility for what happened that night. Even on the night. But the truth is .... It was an accident.

"I've been having some sort of emotional breakdown for a very long time.

"But I am NOT a domestic abuser. We had an argument and an accident happened. An accident."

Her post came just a few hours after the inquest into Caroline's death found that she died as a result of suicide by hanging on February 15.

Poplar Coroner's Court heard how Caroline's body was identified by her twin sister Jody Flack, who had been due to visit her that day.

Paramedics and police officers attempted to revive her with CPR, but she died at 2.36pm, the court heard.

Her death came just weeks before she was due to stand trial for assault on March 4.

Caroline had plead not guilty and her boyfriend Lewis was standing by her.

The inquest continues on August 5.
