Cheryl delighted fans on Friday after releasing solo track Let You, months after making her comeback with Love Made Me Do It.
The former Girls Aloud singer had teased the song on Instagram, sharing a glimpse at the neon video and revealing the catchy name.
Hours before the midnight release, Cheryl revealed that the single is a nod to past relationships with “men who were controlling”.

The opening verse of the song hints at Cheryl choosing to give a guy a chance despite it being a risky relationship – or maybe one she was warned against. Last November, with Love Made Me Do It, Cheryl suggested that her friends had been telling her to “stop” because “they end up picking up the pieces”. Those lyrics also confessed her taste in men had been “bad for her health”.

Fans think that the chorus is pointed at ex-boyfriend Liam Payne, who is also the father of her two-year-old son Bear. But others think it’s about recognising self-control, choosing the relationships you want to be in despite Cheryl stating she felt like she was the one being “controlled”.
She told Fault magazine: “I’ve made mistakes in relationships. I’ve been with men who were controlling, who made me unhappy, but I allowed it to happen. That’s what this song is about.”

In her interview, Cheryl told the publication that she had “allowed everything to happen” and the song was about recognising that behaviour to ensure it doesn’t repeat itself.
“You have to recognise it, and you have to try and not let it happen again,” she said.
So the lyrics in the bridge are all about “owning” past mistakes and going forward, in this case with love and relationships.
