Cheryl calls for drive thrus to be used as drive thru supermarkets and fans say she needs to be PM

Cheryl has made a bold suggestion for closed drive thru restaurants to be used as 'drive thru' supermarkets, offering people across the country a safer way of getting essential items.

Over the past few weeks as the coronavirus pandemic has spread across the UK, we've seen plenty of pictures and videos of huge queues lining up outside UK supermarkets, with many people not abiding by the 'two metre' social distancing instruction from the Government.

Then of course there's been the issue of stock piling, with some shoppers bulk buying essentials like toilet roll, hand sanitiser and pasta, leaving none for anyone else. And then at the weekend, supermarket workers said they'd been abused by shoppers while they tried to do their job.

Addressing the many issues and the fact that plenty of other people don't feel safe even going to the supermarket, Geordie star Cheryl tweeted: "I have an idea.. I haven’t got into any of the logistics yet but as a concept ..as there are now so many drive through restaurants closed.. could we partner them with food stores, set up an app for locals and use their drive thru’s as a safer way for ppl to shop essentials?"

The 36-year-old added: "So overwhelmed atm. Either can not accommodate or you’re 26,000 +in line. Forcing people who are scared and or vulnerable out of their home. To go and stand 6ft apart in a queue. And it’s getting scarier by the day

Her suggestion received the immediate backing of outspoken Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, who quoted her tweet and told his many followers: "This is a great idea."

Others agreed with Piers too. One fan of Cheryl's idea tweeted: "It’s very feasible as well .. Chez for PM?" and, sharing those sentiments, another responded: "Cheryl should be Prime Minister."

However, others said Cheryl was forgetting a service that already exists, with one replying: "So.... Click and collect, that Tesco and Asda already offer."
