Broke Cheryl Baker says she's 'fallen through cracks' as she turns to fan videos for cash

Cheryl Baker has opened up about her diminishing finances amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The star of 1980s pop group Bucks Fizz, 66, has resorted to recording fan videos on CelebVM app in a bid to "make a living" during Covid.

Coronavirus has had a huge impact on the entertainment industry as gigs and tour dates have been cancelled for all performers.

In normal times, the musician still performed alongside former Bucks Fizz members Mike Nolan and Jay Aston as The Fizz.

During Wednesday's Good Morning Britain, Cheryl admitted she had "fallen through the cracks" and didn't qualify for furlough.

She said: "Lockdown has impacted hugely. I'm part of the entertainment industry and probably 90 per cent of people in this industry are effected the same.

"We've fallen through the cracks where the government is giving out furloughs and things. We did one gig in September when we were allowed to."

Admittedly Cheryl thinks her next gig pegged for March will be cancelled "any day now" but she's hopeful to get into the studio to record the 40th anniversary album by August.

She said: "We have a gig in at the moment for March 6 which hasn't been cancelled, I'm sure it'll go any day now. The next one after that is May 14.

"We are hoping to get into studio and do our 40th anniversary album which we should have done in August of last year. I'm a very positive, forward thinking person but we all have to take our time."

The showbiz world has taken a hit in the pandemic and Cheryl is among many of the stars struggling to make ends meet.

Cheryl explained stars have been working hard "trying to make a living", citing one of her actor friends who has been delivering to supermarkets.

She said: "I think of myself as a spokesperson, it's not just me, it's most of this industry. We're all trying to make a living.

"A friend of mine is a great actor and she's been delivering for one of the supermarkets. I've been recording messages for people. It keeps the wolves from the door."

It comes after Cheryl said she was "so broke" that her Dancing on Ice partner Daniel Whiston offered her money.

"Mike rang me and said, "I’m coming down on the train. Pick me up at the station, I’m bringing cash for you'," Cheryl told The Sun.

"My skating partner from Dancing On Ice, Dan Whiston, called and offered to send money. A fan in Australia put a call out, saying 'Cheryl’s destitute, we need to start a collection'."

The cash-strapped star and her husband guitarist Steve Stroud, 68, have been cutting down on costs by growing their own veg.

"We ate our own broccoli, carrots and potatoes on Christmas Day," she revealed. "I’ve started planning the veg garden now because I know this spring I still won’t be working.”
