Cher has spoken out about the current controversy surrounding former Vice President (and potential 2020 presidential hopeful) Joe Biden, opening up about her experience of being hugged by him.

Biden has faced a growing swell of allegations that he has made women uncomfortable with his use of physical contact over the past years.

He made light of the controversy on Friday while continuing to lay the groundwork for a 2020 presidential run.

Cher, meanwhile, weighed in on Twitter the previous day, saying that she once spent time talking with Biden in his office and asked him questions.

“As time passed I found him forthright, kind and smart,” the singer wrote.

She then said Biden walked her to the door and gave her a hug as the meeting ended.

“I was fine with it, but that was my experience.

“He must commit to be aware and care about women’s space.”

On Friday, the former vice president joked while speaking to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Washington that he “had permission” to hug the union’s male president, Lonnie Stephenson.

The welcoming, mostly male audience responded with laughter and cheers.
