Cher has seemingly confirmed she will perform at the next Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, bringing joy to fans after a month of rumours and a cryptic hint from the superstar singer.
The 71-year-old gay icon has not explicitly said she will be performing, but hinted heavily at her appearance on Twitter.
"Ok... you boys know where I'll be in March," she wrote, with a rainbow emoticon and a "Put Some Shrimp on the Barbie" hashtag.
Although Cher's performance has not been officially confirmed, organisers said tickets to Sydney's Mardi Gras Party sold out just hours after her emoji-heavy tweet.
"We have lots of exciting announcements coming up [very] soon," organisers wrote on Twitter.
"It's going to be an INCREDIBLE NIGHT!"
Next year is the 40th anniversary of the annual gay pride festival, which runs from mid-February to early March.
According to a Fairfax media report on Wednesday, sources close to the event said Cher was "almost locked in" to headline the huge event.
Rumours started swirling earlier this month, when the music legend hinted at the performance in a cryptic tweet:
International and local stars regularly headline the festival.
Previous international superstars include George Michael in 2010, Tina Arena in 2009, and both Cyndi Lauper and Olivia Newton-John in 2008.
Kylie and Dannii Minogue have also regularly performed at the festival in the past 20 years.
The ABC has contacted Mardi Gras organisers for comment.
