Chepstow Racecourse announces new sponsors for one of the richest races of the season at track

Gloucestershire-based Cotswold Stone Supplies are the new sponsors of the £50,000 Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle, one of the richest races of the season at Chepstow.

The competitive race, over two-and-a-half miles, takes place on Saturday, October 12, which is Day Two of the Unibet Jump Season Opener.

It has been won by numerous top-class horses. In 2007, the Jonjo O’Neill trained Don’t Push It took the prize and three years later won the Aintree Grand National under Tony McCoy.

Other recent winners include Court Minstrel (twice), Ballyoptic, Shelford, Lamb Or Cod and Garo De Juilley.

Colin and Sue Lewis, owners of the Tetbury-based stone business, have agreed to support the big race and will also celebrating Colin’s 70th birthday the same day.

Sue said: ”We are delighted to be sponsoring the Silver Trophy at Chepstow on Colin’s big day. It’s the first time we have ventured into race sponsorship and we’re looking forward to an exciting afternoon.”

Cotswold Stone Supplies is a family-run business and has been operating for more than 30 years supplying building, landscaping and architectural stone from their own quarry.

Colin and Sue also own a racehorse called Tile Tapper, who is currently being pre-trained with Chris Honour in Devon. Tile Tapper is a half-brother to the David Pipe-trained Hot Ryan, a two-time winner at Worcester this season.
