CHENNAI: A 60-year-old woman was found murdered at her Royapuram house, with six sovereigns of gold jewellery on her person missing, police said on Wednesday.
Police say she may have been strangulated. The perpetrators had sprinkled chilli powder around the body to keep sniffer dogs off their trail.
Police said neighbours found Antony Mary, who lived alone, dead at the house in Kasima Nagar after she failed to respond to their knocks. On information, a police team from the Kasimedu police station rushed to the place and found the crime scene covered in chilli powder.
A case has been registered. Police have collected CCTV camera footage from the vicinity.
