CHENNAI: Police have been instructed to allow a grace time for owners of 100 vehicles with illegal ‘G’ stickers to remove them.
Three private vehicles, which did not have any connection with any government department and were found moving around with ‘G’ stickers, have been seized, police said.
All vehicles which were issued warning in the first phase were private vehicles being used for official purposes. Most of those who were caught claimed that they weren't aware of the rule, police said.
Police have been asked to note down the registration number of the vehicle and give them some time to remove the stickers. Any vehicle found sporting the sticker even after a warning will be seized.
“All those who were caught during the check have assured to make necessary changes soon,” said a police officer.
As per rule, even government officials cannot put the ‘G’ stickers on their own vehicles even if they are using it for official purposes. Such vehicles can put can up a printed sheet stating 'vehicle on government duty' on the front windshield of the vehicle.
