Chennai: Sub-inspector rescues teen girl who tried to jump into sea

CHENNAI: A sub-inspector who noticed a teenager jumping into the sea to end her life at Thiruvottiyur rescued her on well in time.

SI Manoharan of Fishing Harbour police station was patrolling the beach stretch on Saturday night. He noticed a teenager jumping into the sea from one of the rocks. He immediately rushed to the spot, where he saw she had switched on her mobile camera and had placed it on the rock nearby to capture her suicide. The SI initially thought she was clicking videos, but later realised it was a suicide attempt.

He entered the sea in a fibre boat and managed to pull the girl out of water with the help of local fishermen.

During inquiry, the girl said that she had completed her Class XII and was a resident of Royapuram. She was depressed with a dispute in her family. Her parents were called and were advised to take care of their child. Inspector Franvin Dani appreciated the SI for his swift action in rescuing the child.
