CHENNAI: A sanitary worker was killed after she accidentally fell into a well at Mylapore on Sunday.
The deceased, Uma Maheshwari, 37, was employed at a private firm on Luz Church Road. At 5.45 pm, while trying to clean the mouth of the well , Uma climbed the wall of well in order to clean it. She accidentally slipped and fell into the well. Before firemen could rush in, she had died.
Her body was fished out after two hours. Her husband Murugan, who was not informed about the accident, was waiting to pick his wife outside her office. Since her calls went unanswered, he tried calling her colleagues. After multiple calls, one of the policeman told him that she had died due to a freak accident.
Murugan has lodged a complaint at Mylapore police station. Police have registered a case of accidental drowning and are investigating.
