CHENNAI: Ramapuram lake beautification project is nearing completion and is expected to be open for the public in the coming weeks, Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has told the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The civic body, which maintains the waterbody, said that it had spent Rs93 lakh in cleaning up the lake and constructing compound walls, baby pond and stone pitching for beautification. Besides this, GCC is constructing an open gym, badminton court and children's play area.
The lake, which shrunk from 7 hectares to 1.5 acres due to encroachments, was supposed to be renovated last year. But GCC, which attributed the delay to the pandemic, said that only minor works were pending, and steps were taken to clear the encroachments too.
