Chennai: Police nab rowdy caught on cam threatening cop

CHENNAI: Police on Tuesday arrested a history-sheeter for creating a ruckus and threatening a policeman at the Abiramapuram police station.

An officer said ‘Pitchai’ Karthik of Abhiramapuram barged into the station on Monday and threatened constable Dinesh, who was on reception and para-sentry duty, with a blade. The rowdy warned that he would kill him when he steps out of the station and also threatened to eliminate him if he ever came to his locality. His threats were peppered with abuse and a video of the whole incident went viral on WhatsApp.

Another policeman on site tried to pacify Karthik and the accused told the officer that he knew many policemen attached to the station and they were like brothers to him. He later managed to escape from the station.

Karthik was eventually nabbed from a hideout in Abiramapuram. He was also arrested based on the complaint of a woman named Ammu who accused him of trespassing in her house and ransacking her belongings. Karthik was produced before a magistrate court and sent to jail on Tuesday.

Karthik was known to often hide a blade in his mouth and threaten people with it to part with their valuables. He even attempted to injure himself when a police team tried to apprehend him.
