CHENNAI: A man who came to hand over ganja to a murder accused being produced before a Poonamallee court was nabbed on Friday.
The man, Tamilarasan, 25, of Anna Nagar had recently come out on bail in a murder case. His accomplice Suresh is still lodged in Puzhal prison. Police said Suresh had come to attend a hearing in the murder case when Tamilarasan arrived at the court with 60g of ganja hidden in his dhoti. When he saw Suresh he tried to pass it on to him and was caught in the act.
Police recovered the contraband from him possession. The Poonamallee police booked a case against him and lodged him in Puzhal jail. Police said Tamilarasan had earlier attempted to hand over ganja to Suresh but failed. "He (Tamilarasan) was asked to appear before the court in the case on Friday when he decided to hand it over to him," said an investigating officer.
In May, a man riding a two-wheeler tried to throw ganja packets inside a police vehicle carrying under-trial prisoners. He was arrested near Ambattur industrial estate.
The prisoners were being taken back to Puzhal central prison after trial at the judicial magistrate court, Ambattur, when policemen inside the van noticed the man trailing their vehicle on a two-wheeler.
