Chennai: Man sent to 5 years in jail for molesting 11-year-old girl

CHENNAI: A guest worker from Jharkhand has been sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment for molesting a minor girl, 11, in the city.

S Govind Kumar, the accused, was working at an iron scrap yard in Pulianthope police limits. In 2018, MKB Nagar all-women police arrested him for sexual abuse and molestation of a minor. Based on a complaint from the girl’s mother, Govid Kumar was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. He was 20 then.

After four years of trial, a special court in the city dealing with Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act held that the prosecution has proved beyond doubt that the accused was guilty and sentenced him for five years of rigorous imprisonment. It also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.

The top brass of the city police appreciated the MKB Nagar all-women police for ensuring conviction in the case.
