Three 150-year-old buildings of the Government Fine Arts College on Poonamallee High Road will soon be renovated.
Each of the buildings is in a different style, dictated by the purpose it was constructed for – the administrative office is in graceful colonial white, but the studios and workshops are housed in a structure with big windows to let in light.
However, poor conservation initiatives have left cracks on the walls and dust falling from the bricks of the two-storey Indo-Saracenic buildings. Vegetation is also growing on the walls at the rear.
Arts and culture secretary B Chandra Mohan said discussions have been held on estimates for the renovation. “It would be a comprehensive restoration of heritage buildings at the Government Fine Arts College,” he added.
