CHENNAI: The Kilpauk deputy commissioner of police on Wednesday returned a bicycle to a Class V student who six days earlier saw it being ridden away by a man from his apartment complex. The thief, identified as Asrar, 23, of Mangadu, was arrested and sent to jail.
On February 3, police said, Krish was in the play area of his apartment complex on Purasawalkam High Road when he saw a man pushing out his bicycle worth ₹25,000. The boy ran behind him, but the thief managed to ride away. Krish’s parents, both doctors, lodged a complaint with the Kilpauk police and met Dr K Karthikeyan, DCP.
A case was registered and police after picking up the trail of the thief found him working at the renovation of a restaurant in Shenoy Nagar. An investigation showed he stole the bicycle to sell it to buy ganja and parked it near a tea shop. The tea seller said none came looking for it. After the bicycle was retrieved, the DCP decided to hand it over to its owner personally. tnn
