Chennai court told Vijay Makkal Iyakkam stands dissolved

CHENNAI: Days after actor Vijay moved a Chennai court to restrain his parents and other office-bearers of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam from organising any meeting using his name, his film director father S A Chandrasekaran informed the court that the Iyakkam had been dissolved.

“A resolution was passed in a general body meeting held on February 28 which was attended by all the officer-bearers of the society registered the Tamil Nadu Societies Act and it was accepted by all the members who participated,” Chandrasekaran said.

In his three-page affidavit filed before the XV city civil court, Chandrasekaran submitted that the organisation was formed under his presidency on July 8, 2020 at Virugambakkam, Chennai.

Subsequently, officebearers of the organisation S J Jagan, P Muthu, K Bharathidasan, Shoba Sekar and R Mageshwaran tendered their resignation from their respective posts, he said.

He further added that in view of the February 28 resolution, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has been dissolved and is not in existence now and, further, they are no longer members of the organisation but continue to be ‘general fans of actor Vijay’.

Recording the submissions in the case, the civil court adjourned the next hearing to October 29.
