Chennai: Cop surrenders in car driver murder case

CHENNAI: Senthilkumar, a police head constable wanted in the June 1 murder of a car driver in KK Nagar, surrendered before a Tirunelveli on Monday. His girlfriend had been arrested earlier in the case. The Padalam police, who had recovered the half-burned body of the slain man, 26-year-old Ravi, have now requested the court concerned for permission to take the accused into custody for questioning.

On June 1, Ravi’s wife Aishwarya had lodged a complaint saying he was missing after Senthil Kumar and four others had taken him forcibly from the house.

Police said Ravi and Senthilkumar, who lived with his girlfriend Kavitha, were neighbours at Vijayaraghavapuram in KK Nagar. The couples often fought over dumping garbage and other petty issues.

On June 1, after a quarrel, Senthilkumar and his friends took Ravi from his house forcibly. Later, Senthilkumar hit Ravi with a wooden stick and he died, said an officer. “The next day, the body was packed along with household goods in a truck and taken to a spot near Padalam in Chengalpet where it was burned,” said the officer.

After the body was identified as that of Ravi, police picked up Kavita for questioning.
