CHENNAI: The Mangadu police rescued a real estate broker from a house in Attur near Salem in the wee hours of Tuesday, and arrested 10 people who abducted him for a ransom of 1 crore.
According to police, a group of 10 people visited Suresh Kumar, 48, the real estate broker, at his house in Mangadu on Monday evening. They began conversations with him under the pretext of a business deal. At one point, they suddenly tied his hands with a rope at knife point and bundled him into their car. Before fleeing with him, the gang told Suresh’s family members to pay 1 crore for his release.
The family lodged a complaint with police who formed four special teams to nab the culprits. Suresh’s mobile phone remained switched off. At night, his phone was traced to Attur near Salem. A special team rushed to Attur and rescued the man. They arrested 10 people and brought them to Chennai.
Investigation revealed that the gang abducted Suresh for ransom as his cousin had borrowed 1 crore from them. They plotted his abduction after noticing his advertisement in a newspaper that he was ready to sell his house for 2 crore.
The arrested were identified as H Rajasekar, 35, of Keerapalayam in Chidambaram, V Arvind Raj, 34, S Ravirajan, 31, S Muthusamy, 39, from Chidambaram, S Babu, 40, R Manikandan, 25, from Keezha Bhuvanagiri in Cuddalore, C Arvind, 27, from Konda Samudram in Thanjavur, and R Rajarajan, 52, from Abdul Kalam Nagar in Seneer Kuppam. The other two arrested names were yet to be disclosed.
Assistant commissioner of police Rajeev Prince of SRMC-Porur police station said, “The special team led by inspector Raj nabbed the suspects and rescued the victim from a house in Attur near Salem.”
The four-wheeler used for the abduction was seized. The arrested were remanded.
