CHENNAI: A 25-year-old man was hacked to death on Friday,, allegedly by a gang in Ambattur, over a previous enmity that took place during a drunken brawl a month ago. Police arrested nine men, including a college student for the murder.
The deceased, N Udhayakumar, 25, from Annai Indira Nagar in Surapattu was working at a private firm in Tiruvallur, said the police. His body was found near the bushes in Thamaraikulam in Shanmugapuram.
Police said he had two petty cases pending against him in Ambattur police station.
“On Friday night a housekeeping staff, who works in the nearby residence, noticed a cry for help and alerted the police,” said a senior police officer. Based on the information, police found Udhayakumar’s body with several stab injuries. The Ambattur police registered a case and sent the body to the Stanley Government Hospital for postmortem examination.
After preliminary inquiries, police said, in April, Udhayakumar and one Moses of the same area had a petty quarrel.
Due to simmering differences, Udayakumar went to Moses's house and asked the his mother the whereabouts of Moses.
“Hours later, Moses along with the nine associates forcibly took Udayakumar to the secluded place and hacked him to death,” said the police.
The accused, D Poovendran, 35, S Saran, 19, a third-year college student and son of a former DMK panchayat president, J Eliya Samuel, 22, M Mukundan, 21, C Manickam, 24, L Franklin, 23, S Vinoth Kumar, 40, B Maris and A Ramamurthy, 19. The police are yet to arrest Moses.
