CHENNAI: The ECR police nabbed 20 bikers for speeding on the stretch over the weekend in Kanathur. The youth were made to take a pledge that they will not speed on the road.
Following complaints of overspeeding on the ECR stretch, police installed barricades and monitored for violations round the clock in the weekends.
A special team of police involved in the drive managed to nab 20 bikers who were speeding on the stretch. Some bikers were found to have modified the engine to increase speed.
They were made to line up on the roadside and take a pledge. They pledged not to overspeed, and avoid triple riding. The bikers took an oath that they will not indulge in any traffic violation and cause hindrance to motorists. The police educated them on the importance of speed limits.
"Fines and prosecution will be continued, but sometimes the focus will largely be on creating awareness," said a traffic police officer. Police said that the stretch also has ANPR cameras which help them to nab violators easily.
