CHENNAI: Two men on a bike who tried their luck to snatch a mobile phone from a woman pedestrian in Perambur on Friday were chased by the woman and her friend who with passersby helped catch one robber.
The college girls – K Gayatri, 19, of Kalpakkam and Deepalakshmi, 19, of Perungalathur – were quick to chase one of the robbers who snatched the phone from Gayaatri in GKM Colony near Peravallur.
While the snatcher escaped from the spot and tried to get on a bike that was being driven by his accomplice, the two girls chased him and pushed him off the bike.
The bike rider managed to flee, but a passerby joined the girls and nabbed the robber. He was handed over to police. The robber was identified as D Karthik, 25, of GKM Colony and the snatched phone was seized from him.
A few hours later, a police team nabbed his accomplice who was identified as G Surya, 25, also of GKM Colony. Police remanded the duo in judicial custody.
