Chen and Jia emerge as All England Open champions

Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan were crowned All England Open champions after beating Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara in the women's doubles final in Birmingham yesterday.

The Chinese fifth seeds fought back after dropping the first game to beat the Japanese third seeds 18-21, 22-20, 21-11 in 82 minutes at Arena Birmingham.

Top seed Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan was due to face third seed Chen Yufei of China in the women's singles final later last night, chasing a hat-trick of titles at the US$1 million tournament.

In the men's singles title match, world No.1 Kento Momota of Japan was due to face Viktor Axelsen of Denmark.

Top seeds Zheng Siwei and Huang yaqiong of China were due to meet third seeds Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino of Japan in the mixed doubles decider while Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia were to play sixth seeds Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia in the men's doubles showdown.

Victory for Porntip

Porntip Buranaprasertsuk beat Hung En-tzu to win the women's singles title at the $10,000 Portuguese International Championships yesterday.

The Thai top seed and world No.58 beat her 302nd-ranked Taiwanese opponent 21-12, 19-21, 21-11 in the 54-minute decider.

It was Porntip's second successive title in as many weeks as she continued her comeback trail from a knee injury which kept her out of action for a year.
