Tragedy struck in Eastern Thailand as a massive fire broke out at a chemical storage tank, resulting in one fatality and four injuries. The incident occurred at the Mab Ta Phut Industrial Estate, where the fire was reported in the morning and took over six hours to contain. Firefighters anticipate it may take more than 10 hours to fully extinguish the flames, according to the Rayong province’s public relations department.
Approximately 400 workers and residents were evacuated to a temporary shelter as a precautionary measure. The tank, owned by the Mab Ta Phut Tank Terminal company, had a storage capacity of 2,500 cubic meters and contained Pyrolysis gasoline, a chemical blend commonly used in gasoline production.
Images and videos from the scene depict a towering plume of black smoke and intense flames engulfing the white tank, situated near several others within the industrial complex. This unfortunate incident is not the first for the company, as a similar fire erupted from one of its tanks in 2021, resulting in three fatalities and two serious injuries.
The company has pledged to investigate the cause of the fire and implement preventive measures to avoid future occurrences. Expressing condolences to the victims and their families, the company has also assured that compensation will be provided to those affected by the tragic event.
