Cheltenham jockeys in heated row on live TV

  • A heated exchange took place between Irish amateur Declan Queally and jockey Nico de Boinville at the start line of the Turners Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday.
  • The incident, involving jockeys clashing for position, caused a nearly four-minute delay to the opening race on day two.
  • Queally stated in a live TV interview on ITV afterwards that he was “abused” by De Boinville, who retorted, “maybe he should look in the mirror”.
  • Racing legends Ruby Walsh and Sir Anthony McCoy commented on the dispute, with Walsh advocating for a rolling start to prevent future chaotic incidents.
  • The chaotic start severely inconvenienced the 5-2 favourite, No Drama This End, who was subsequently pulled up by jockey Harry Cobden.
