Cheltenham Festival travel chaos as ‘trespass incident’ causes train delays

Cheltenham Festival

Hundreds of racegoers travelling to the opening day of Cheltenham Festival faced significant rail disruptions due to a “trespass incident”.
The incident near Gloucester blocked all train lines, causing Great Western Railway services to be cancelled or delayed by up to 25 minutes.
National Rail initially expected disruptions to last until 12:30 pm, affecting thousands heading to Champion Day.
A trespasser was apprehended by Bristol Transport Police before 11am, but a queue of services was still waiting to arrive at Cheltenham Spa.
Despite the delays, racegoers were making their way to Prestbury Park for the first race at 1.20 pm, with organisers hoping to boost attendance this year.
