Cheltenham Festival 2020 £1 bet on Harry Redknapp's horses returns £15,000

Football fans who like a punt on the Cheltenham Festival have found a £1 bet that pays around £15,000 if it comes off.

Harry Redknapp has two horses running at the meeting, which are huge odds with the bookmakers.

Shakem Up’Arry (Ballymore Novices' Hurdle, 1.30pm) and Brief Ambition (Weatherbys Champion Bumper, 5.30pm) carry his hopes.

But they are unfancied in the betting- and are around 100/1 and 150/1.

The former Tottenham and West Ham manager was at Newbury when Shakem Up’Arry raced against Shishkin, the horse that won yesterday's Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle.

Both horses are trained in Gloucestershire, a short distance away from Cheltenham Racecourse.

Ben Pauling has prepared Shakem Up’Arry for today's first race, as he takes on hot favourite Envoi Allen.

"There is no doubt that he is crying out for this step up in trip," he said.

"I firmly believe he is a very exciting horse for the future and will outrun his odds."

Famous faces at Cheltenham on the first day, which featured wins for Epatante and leading lady Rachael Blackmore, included Zara Tindall and Carol Vorderman.

A spokesperson for racing analysts MyBettingSites said: “Nothing excites fans more than a famous owner and we’re expecting plenty of football supporters backing Harry to bash the bookies again, despite the odds suggesting his horses are up against it today."
