Jonjo O’Neil Jr. rode Early Doors to victory in the final race of the 2019 Cheltenham Festival to give connections something to cheer on an awful day.
Trainer Joseph O’Brien and owner JP McManus lost stable star Sir Erec in Friday’s opener, the Triumph Hurdle, but bounced back with victory in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle.
Favourite Dallas Des Pictons looked to be travelling best coming to the last, but it was Early Doors who prevailed up the hill to land at 5-1.
Defi Bleu ran on for third at 14/1, with Champagne Court fourth at the same odds.
It was a fifth win of the week for JP McManus, who also had Espoir D’Allen land the Champion Hurdle on Tuesday, before Defi Du Seuil, Sire Du Berlais and Any Second Now landed a hat-trick on Thursday.
