Chelsy Davy's time at Leeds University and Prince Harry relationship

Unless you have been hiding under a rock you will know that Prince Harry's memoir, Spare, has been released today as the Duke of Sussex takes a savage swipe at several members of the Royal Family.

The prince has delved into his past in a tell-all book as he shares never before heard stories of his life and upbringing in the public eye, including intimate details and topics surrounding drugs, his past relationships, his mothers death and his relationship with his brother, Prince William, and father, King Charles.

And while his brother, Prince William, and stepmother Camilla took the brunt of the accusations across the book's 416 pages, Harry also said the Queen's disapproval of his first love and long-term ex, Chelsy Davy, was part of the reason the relationship broke down.

Many royal watchers were convinced Harry would end up with Chelsy Davy, however, in the book Harry reveals his late grandmother played a part in their split, leaving him heartbroken.

Chelsy Davy was Prince Harry's first serious girlfriend, he pair met while attending the Stowe School in Buckinghamshire.

We have taken a delve into Harry's former lover Chelsy Davy including the time she spent at Leeds University.

Who is Chelsy Davy?

Prince Harry has said his late grandmother The Queen played a part in his break up with Chelsy Davy (PA)

Chelsy Davy is a Zimbabwean businesswoman who is the owner and founder of the jewellery brand "Aya" and the travel agency "Aya Africa".

Davy is from a wealthy family, she was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, to Charles Davy, a South African safari farmer, and Beverley Donald Davy, a former Coca-Cola model and winner of the 1973 Miss Rhodesia contest. She has a younger brother, Shaun, and grew up at her family's homestead in the Lemco Safari Area

Her father Charles was one of the largest private landowners in Zimbabwe, and was reported to own 800,000 acres (320,000 ha) of land.

Davy was briefly educated at Cheltenham College prior to this she attended Girls College in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (not Cheltenham Ladies' College as has been widely reported) before moving to Stowe School in Buckinghamshire, which is where she and Prince Harry first met.

She received a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Cape Town in 2006, and a law degree (LLB) from University of Leeds in 2009 after she moved the UK.

In September 2011, Davy began work as a trainee solicitor at London law firm Allen & Overy. However, in late 2014, Davy decided to quit her position at the firm and later launched her own jewellery brand.

Harry and Chelsy were in an on-off relationship between 2004 and 2011, during which time Chelsy was introduced to the Queen and also attended William and Kate's wedding as Harry's plus one.

However, it seems the late Monarch wasn't a fan of Chelsy's free-spirited lifestyle, which ultimately led to the relationship breaking down.

On page six of Harry's memoir, Spare, the Duchess of Sussex reports that Chelsy made him "really happy" but it wasn't enough for the relationship to last.

He penned: "I couldn't help what my grandmother thought about it. Or the people. And the last thing I wanted was for Chels to change to please them."

Chelsy has previously spoken out about the immense pressure of being in the public eye, she said in an interview with The Times: "It was so full-on: crazy and scary and uncomfortable, I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn't cope. I was young, I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible."

Harry's ex-girlfriend stated that she would not marry the Prince due to the "rising incompatibility of their life choices within the relationship."

Despite things not working out with the two of them, Chelsy and Harry remain friends and she was a guest at Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding in 2018.

Chelsy is happily married to hotelier Sam Cutmore-Scott and gave birth to their son, Leo, in early 2022.
