Chelsey Harwood fails to appear in court again for not paying £12k fine

Former reality star Chelsey Harwood has failed to attend court again for not paying a huge fine.

The 32-year-old, of Devonshire Road, Prenton, was in the dock again for failing to pay a fine of more than £12,000.

Her case was due to be heard in Wirral Magistrates Court, on Tuesday, but Harwood did not show up.

The court issued the fine in her absence.

Harwood was due to appear in court again over mounting fees she owes.

Although not in court, Harwood did post on Instagram about coronavirus, comparing it to mad cow disease.

The former This Is Liverpool star, from Dingle, needed to pay £12,778.98 - a sum which amounted after not paying traffic fines and costs owed to the court from her last appearance.

Harwood's court costs come from when she was sentenced for of carrying out illegal teeth-whitening treatment in 2018.

She also failed to attend that hearing.

This offence came just one year after she was jailed for conning taxpayers out of £25,000.

Liverpool Magistrates' Court heard how Harwood, then 30, advertised 'Teeth whitening by Chelsey' service, despite being warned it was illegal unless performed by dental professionals.

Harwood was exposed by the ECHO in January 2018 amid fears she could be doing serious damage to people's teeth.

She was then caught out by undercover investigators from the General Dental Council (GDC), who Harwood berated when they revealed their true identity.

As Harwood was convicted for this, the judge warned her the maximum punishment could have been an unlimited fine.

Later that year, in July 2018, she was fined £11,000 for carrying out the illegal service.

She did not attend her sentencing, but was fined £7,500, a £180 victim surcharge and the full GDC legal costs of £3,422.98 in her absence.

On passing sentence, District Judge Andrew Shaw said Harwood’s income was comparable to “commercial crime with the potential of earning £2,500 per week or £10,000 per month”.
