Chelsea youngster Tino Anjorin signs new five-year contract

Chelsea youngster Tino Anjorin has signed a new five-year contract with the club, becoming the latest academy prospect to do so.

The midfielder, 18, made his first-team debut in a 7-1 League Cup victory over Grimsby earlier this season and made his Premier League bow coming off the bench in the final game before football was suspended, a 4-0 win against Everton at Stamford Bridge.

Anjorin, who played a crucial role in an undefeated season with Chelsea's Under-23s, follows in the footsteps of a number of academy graduates who have committed their futures to the club.

Callum Hudson-Odoi, Billy Gilmour, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James have all signed long-term extensions over the past year.

“[In the academy] we’re not friends, we’re like brothers. And when we go over to the first team, it’s very welcoming, it’s like a family,” Anjorin said in an interview with the Independent earlier this year.

“Having players like Tammy [Abraham] and Mason [Mount], they know what it’s like being a younger player in the academy. They look after you and give you what maybe they never had at my age.

"Callum [Hudson-Odoi] is only a year above me. It’s relatable, so 100 per cent it makes you more confident knowing the chances are there.”
