Chelsea yet to confirm if Gonzalo Higuain stay breaks transfer embargo

Chelsea have yet to confirm reports that Gonzalo Higuain can be re-signed on loan, despite the transfer embargo.

It has been suggested that because Higuain was registered as a Chelsea player when he joined from Juventus in January and there was an option in the deal to extend it by another 12 months for £15.6m, he would not count as a new acquisition.

Meanwhile, There are doubts over the future of Olivier Giroud.

Giroud wants assurances over playing time before taking the option of another year on his contract or he will leave on a free.

Nice technical director Gilles Grimandi has confirmed the Ligue 1 side are interested in Giroud.

"If Olivier Giroud decides to come that is because he likes the project at Nice," Grimandi told Canal Football. "If Olivier is not happy at Chelsea, if he wants to play, we will take all the elements into account.

"I have spoken with manager Patrick [Vieira] about Olivier Giroud, but we have not spoken with Olivier Giroud."
