Chelsea wonderkid Conor Gallagher will not be moving to a Premier League club this month

Chelsea wonderkid Conor Gallagher rejoined his parent club today from his loan spell with Charlton Athletic.

The 19-year-old had a successful stint with the Addicks, making 26 Championship appearances and netting six times.

However, the youngster has been recalled by the Blues, much to the disappointment of Charlton boss Lee Bowyer.

Bowyer told the Charlton website : “I’m disappointed. I didn’t see this coming if I’m honest which makes it harder to take. At the end of the day, though, we have to move on.

Lampard: There's more to come from Hudson-Odoi

“He’s been a credit and a pleasure to work with. He’s come in and put his body on the line every single day. He’s scored us goals and helped us win games. For someone so young, he’s a great talent to work with and I wish him all the best for his future. He’s come in, learnt and he’s going back a better player than we received and that’s what our job is - to improve players.

“I would like to thank Chelsea for loaning us Conor. The most important thing now is that Conor goes on and progresses in his career and we’ve got to move on and try and find a replacement.”

Gallagher was training with the first team today, however he is not expected to be sticking around too long, with another loan on the horizon.

However, while there have been Premier League clubs interested, football.london understands Gallagher won't be making the switch to the top flight this month.

Burnley and Norwich City were keen on last season's Chelsea Academy Player of the Year, however the terms do not match what the Blues want.

Both clubs wanted Gallagher on either a permanent deal or on a loan with a view to make it a permanent deal.

However, Chelsea are not willing to part with Gallagher on a permanent basis and is still in their plans for the future.

It's likely that Gallagher will head out on another Championship loan, with clubs towards the top of the table keen on taking him for the rest of the 2019/20 campaign.
