Chelsea Women complete World Sevens Football line-up for London tournament

Chelsea Women have confirmed their involvement in the World Sevens Football tournament being held in London later this month.

The seven-a-side tournament, hosted at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium, will see Chelsea, Tottenham, West Ham, London City Lionesses, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Everton and Leicester City compete in the inaugural London edition of the competition.

Chelsea complete the lineup for the tournament, which takes place between Thursday 28 to Saturday 30 May.

The World Sevens Football tournament took place for the first time last May in Estoril, Portugal and grabbed headlines for offering a  £3.76million prize fund, which is significantly more than other major tournament in the women’s game.

On Chelsea’s involvement, manager Sonia Bompastor said: “World Sevens Football presents an exciting opportunity for our team to test ourselves against world-class opposition in a unique and highly competitive environment.

“As only the second European edition of the tournament - and the first to be staged in London - it's a fantastic occasion for our supporters to see the team in action one final time before the players head off for a well-earned summer break following a demanding season.

“We are looking forward to being part of what promises to be a brilliant event for our players and fans alike.”
