Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic warned over "babyish" Thomas Tuchel comments

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has been warned over the consequences of his ‘babyish’ comments on Thomas Tuchel following the release of an excerpt from his upcoming autobiography.

The USMNT international has claimed in his book ‘Christian Pulisic: My Journey So Far’ that he was ‘dumbfounded’ by Tuchel’s decision to drop him in favour of Kai Havertz for Chelsea ’s second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid in 2021.

And now the 24-year-old has been warned that Tuchel ‘may have words with other managers’ over his conduct following his ‘babyish’ attitude, and that he has potentially ‘destroyed’ his relationship with the German as a result.

That’s according to former Liverpool, West Ham and Everton midfielder Don Hutchison, who told ESPN : “Oh, my days! I mean, it is ridiculously naive of Christian Pulisic. Alright, it’s his book, so he feels as though he’s got his little say against Thomas Tuchel, but is he not naive enough to think that Thomas Tuchel won’t be happy and he’ll be having words with other managers?

“Managers change their minds. What happens to you? You’re a little bit gutted, you’re a little bit upset. But it all just sounds a little bit babyish to me. Christian Pulisic having a whinge. What is the point? What does he gain from it?

“I think it’s naive from Pulisic, I don’t know what he gains from it. Shaka [Hislop, also on the ESPN panel] said about book sales, well alright that’s what he gains from it but it’s not my cup of tea. But why would you do that to a manager that could have been already at Chelsea?”

Will Christian Pulisic remain at Chelsea beyond this season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Pulisic previously worked with Tuchel when the pair were at Borussia Dortmund and scored seven goals in 55 appearances across all competitions during the German’s two year stay at the Westfalenstadion between 2015-2017, winning the DFB-Pokal together in his final season.

There were no reported issues between the two during their time together in Germany, and their relationship grew stronger when Pulisic was then joined by Tuchel at Chelsea in January 2021, where they went on to win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup together.

However, Pulisic’s recent comments have now suggested otherwise, following Tuchel’s decision to drop him ahead of that Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid last year which left the American feeling ‘very disappointed’.

And Hutchison now believes that the 24-year-old’s comments may well have ‘destroyed’ his relationship with the former Blues boss, who could hamper his career as a result. “I think it destroys any relationship that Tuchel will ever have with Christian Pulisic,” he added.

“It destroys the fact that if Thomas Tuchel got a job elsewhere he would sign Pulisic, that’s not going to happen. Managers talk, I wouldn’t be surprised if Thomas Tuchel or Graham Potter is having a conversation, not so much about Pulisic but the individuals in the dressing room and it goes on and on from there.”

Pulisic’s autobiography is set to be released next month and he could well find himself in hot water once more should it include further comments on Tuchel, or anyone else at the club, while he is still a Chelsea player, even if Graham Potter is now the new manager at the helm.
