Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi to train this week if he returns negative coronavirus test

Chelsea are confident Callum Hudson-Odoi will be allowed to train this week should he provide a negative test for coronavirus, despite his arrest on suspicion of rape.

The England international was arrested in the early hours of Sunday after police and ambulance services were called to reports of an unwell woman at the teenager’s Battersea home.

Hudson-Odoi was released on bail and is to report back to police on a date in mid-June.

There is no suggestion under current guidelines that meeting someone from outside your household without symptoms should require isolation for 14 days.

Neither Hudson-Odoi or Chelsea has made any comment but he is understood to deny any wrongdoing.

In March, the winger was the first Premier League player to test positive for the virus, prompting the suspension of elite football in

England and meaning members of Chelsea’s staff who had come into contact with him had to self-isolate. Hudson-Odoi said last month that he had recovered and was feeling “perfect”.

A number of Chelsea players and staff were tested for Covid-19 at their Cobham training ground on Monday, before returning to training in small groups on Tuesday.
