Chelsea win boost chances of £79.6m Kai Havertz transfer as Liverpool fans praise Willian

Here's all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

Player ratings vs Man City

Chelsea have taken another huge step towards ensuring a place in the Champions League next season thanks to a 2-1 win over Manchester City on Thursday night.

It wasn't easy for the Blues as they were under pressure for long periods, but goals from Christian Pulisic and Willian either side of Kevin De Bruyne's stunning equaliser sealed all three points.

Victory also ensured Liverpool have been crowned Premier League champions - a result which saw Reds supporters heap praise on Willian.

Frank Lampard on what Tim Werner will bring to Chelsea

As expected, Pulisic gets a high mark as well as defender Andreas Christensen.

But how did the rest of the team fare?

Lampard transcript

The Blues head coach faced the media following the Man City game and the main talking point from his press conference was the performances of his two goalscorers.

"Delighted with Willian. He's been great for me this season. The players look up to him, a senior player in the group. He has quality, he has work ethic and it was a continuation of his form for big parts of the season. Delighted with him today.

"And of course Christian came in last summer. There was a lot of talk about it. He didn't get a break. When he got in the team he was going really well and then got a really tough injury.

"I wanted to protect him a bit against Villa, see if he could make an impact. He did that. I was always going to start him against City because I know he can bring it in these sort of games. And he brought it.

"He needs to keep working. He is a young player with so much talent and will get better and better."

Pedro to join Roma

Pedro will join Roma when his Chelsea contract expires at the end of next month.

The former Barcelona star was poised to leave the Blues on June 30, but following the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis, which saw English football sent into shutdown mode for over three months, Pedro has since agreed to extend his Blues contract on a short-term basis.

This ensures Frank Lampard has enough cover to see the Blues through until Sunday, July 26 - the final day of the 2019/20 campaign.

However, once the season has reached its conclusion, the 32-year-old winger, who has been with the Blues since 2015, will be allowed to leave to explore a new venture.

And that new venture, according to a report by Sky Sports, is to be Serie A club Roma, who have won the race to sign him on a free transfer.

What Chelsea must do to complete £79.6m Havertz transfer

German publication Bild, via the Metro, claim Kai Havertz will soon sit down and discuss his long-term future with Bayer Leverkusen on July 4, following the DFB Pokal final against Bayern Munich.

Interest is mounting as each day passes by in the German star, with both Chelsea and the Bundesliga champions keen on his signature.

The report also states that Havertz is open to the idea of sealing a move to Stamford Bridge, but only as long as they have secured Champions League football for next season.

Therefore the win over Man City - which has moved the Blues five points clear of Man United in the race for a op four finish - can be seen as a boost to the club's hopes of signing Havertz.

There has been talk that a £79.6million bid had been lodged for the Germany internatinonal.

However, Lampard refuted that, by saying no bid had gone in.
