Chelsea have confirmed their squad for the Club World Cup.
The big news is central defender Wesley Fofana has not been named by head coach Enzo Maresca, and will therefore play no part in the revamped tournament that gets underway in the USA this weekend.
Fofana was a doubt for the Club World Cup after undergoing successful hamstring surgery in April which ultimately ruled him out for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
The Frenchman missed out as the Blues clinched a top-four spot in the Premier League, thus qualifying for the Champions League as well as the Conference League final win over Real Betis.
In Fofana’s absence, new signing Mamadou Sarr provides an extra defensive option in the 28-man squad alongside Marc Cucurella, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James, Malo Gusto, Aaron Anselmino and Josh Acheampong.
Maresca has named four goalkeepers in the squad as fellow new face Mike Penders will provide competition to Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen and Gabriel Slonina after recovering from injury.
As expected, the likes of Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, Pedro Neto, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Noni Madueke have been included.
Fellow new signings Liam Delap and Dario Essugo are in line to make their Chelsea debuts during the tournament whilst supporters can look forward to seeing Andrey Santos in action for the very first time.
Unsurprisingly, Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix and Axel Disasi are among the high-profile names not named in the Club World Cup squad.
