Chelsea ‘way ahead of time’ in development as Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner officially join club

Defender Andreas Christensen believes Chelsea are ‘way ahead of time’ in their development under Frank Lampard, as he looks forward to playing with Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech next season.

The Blues have made great progress in Lampard’s first season in charge, with aa host of young players, including Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham integrated into the first team, and last week’s win over Chelsea was among the best of the Englishman’s reign so far.

Two major improvements have already been secured ahead of next season, with Werner and Ziyech joining the club from RB Leipzig and Ajax respectively.

The pair officially joined the Stamford Bridge outfit today, though neither will be eligible to play until next season, and centre-back Christensen is excited about what they will bring.

“I played against Werner quite a few times when I was in Germany so I know what he can do and what sort of player he is,” Christensen told the club website. “I haven’t played against Ziyech but I’ve seen him a lot and I think they can both bring good things to the club. We’re all excited to see what they can bring.

“We are in a process but I think we are way ahead of time. We know what we’re capable of. We feel very comfortable and confident at the moment. We have a good balance between experienced people and young, exciting talent and we’re all hungry to reach the same goals.”
