Chelsea warned over "disaster" Erling Haaland scenario if they seal transfer

Chelsea have been warned signing Erling Haaland could be a "disaster" if they fail to get the "chemistry" right behind the scenes.

The Blues are among the sides targeted Borussia Dortmund's frontman and are hopeful of beating their rivals to the punch by launching a bid this summer, a year before Haaland's £65million release clause comes into play.

While Roman Abramovich bankrolled a £200m spending spree last summer, Thomas Tuchel will expect to be backed in the upcoming window.

But former Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf has urged Tuchel to be cautious about adding Haaland to his ranks while he is yet to find the perfect formula from the stars already at his disposal.

"Haaland is a beast. Of course it would be a plus for Chelsea," Leboeuf told Sky Sports News. "But now you have to think financially and economically, and you also have to also think and make sure your dressing room is going to be following the coach.

"If you put Haaland (in the team) you lose [Olivier] Giroud, but you might lose [Kai] Havertz, you might lose Werner as well. What about [Christian] Pulisic? Where are you going to play [Hakim] Ziyech?

"That is an equation that you have to make sure is going to work and that the results are going to be good for the club.

"You can add talents, that is not a problem. But you have to make sure the chemistry works.

"Otherwise it is going for disaster. Having only talent doesn’t make sure you are going to win something."

Tuchel has undoubtedly made a difference at Chelsea in a short space of time and appears to be taking the club in the right direction.

But so far he has had to chop and change his line-up to accommodate the wealth of stars at his disposal.

Some of Timo Werner's best performances have been as the lead striker, but Haaland's arrival would likely push the German out wide, raising further questions, as Lebouef suggests, over the long-term futures of their plethora of wingers.

Pulisic in particular has been used sparingly, though Abramovich might consider the loss of the American or any of his current crop of Chelsea stars as acceptable collateral damage in order to land a player of Haaland's pedigree and global stature.

In any event, Haaland seems nonplussed by the speculation surrounding his future despite Europe's elite clambering for his signature.

The 20-year-old was asked what potential suitors will need to offer for him to agree to a move, to which he told VG simply: "They must want me."

That does little to narrow the field of possible destinations, but the forward doesn't appear to be in any rush to move on.

He added: "I still have a three-year contract, I'm not concerned about that."
