Chelsea 'want Frank Lampard to replace Maurizio Sarri' amid Juventus rumours

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is wanted to replace Maurizio Sarri as manager at Stamford Bridge, according to reports in Italy.

The front page of Corriere dello Sport states Sarri is the favourite for the Juventus job following the departure of Massimilliano Allegri.

With Sarri considering a move back to Italy, Chelsea are eyeing a move for former player Lampard to replace him in the Stamford Bridge dugout.

Sarri has reportedly been contacted by the Italian champions, who are also keen on trying to tempt Mauricio Pochettino away from Tottenham .

Sky Italia have reported that Lampard is the man Chelsea 'have decided' they want to lead them after his encouraging start to life as a manager with Derby County.

Lampard, who left the Blues as their all-time leading goalscorer in 2014, has lead Derby to the Championship play-off final.

They are one game away from securing Premier League football ahead of their clash with Aston Villa at Wembley on May 27.

Sarri has not been a hit with Chelsea fans despite leading them to a third place Premier League finish and a spot in the Europa League final against Arsenal in Baku.

His style of football has drawn criticism from supporters, but the return of Lampard would no doubt be a popular appointment as he remains a hero amongst supporters.

Lampard was recently backed to go on and achieve managerial greatness by his uncle, Harry Redknapp.

Redknapp said: “I’ve seen everything from Frank that I expected — he’s a very astute, clever guy.

“When I rang Mel Morris when the job became available, I told Mel what he would get if he took Frank and, I have to be honest, he took a bit of convincing at the time.

“I’m pleased everything I told Mel about him has been what he got.

“Frank has been fantastic, he has been brilliant.

“He is bright as a button, knows the game, understands the game, he has been brought up with it.”
