Chelsea have been in talks with the Ajax winger Jesper Gronkjaer about a possible £9m move. The 23-year-old Danish international has held discussions with the coach Claudio Ranieri over the past two days and Chelsea had hoped to do a deal yesterday.
However, the player has decided to think things over for a couple of days. Barcelona are also interested, although they do not have a transfer window until December.
Gronkjaer, who plays on the left flank, would be Ranieri's second signing after the £1.7m midfielder Slavisa Jokanovic.
Dennis Bergkamp has accused Arsenal of a "lack of respect". The Dutch forward said on his official website www.icons.com that the club were dragging their feet over contract talks even though he has signalled his willingness to end his career at Highbury.
"I really think it shows a total lack of respect for me," he said. "Surely, if a club wants to keep a player, they would make an effort to communicate with me. Instead I end up worrying that they're making an effort to freeze me out."
