Chelsea vs Villarreal predictions: Blues perfectly placed to plunder first silverware of the season in UEFA Super Cup

It's a big season for Chelsea, who look ready to mount a serious title challenge under Thomas Tuchel.

The Champions League winners have a squad packed with quality and depth and that squad is about to get even stronger thanks to the impending arrival of Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku won't be available for Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup clash with Villarreal in Belfast so expect the likes of Werner, Ziyech and Havertz to provide the attacking threat for Thomas Tuchel's side. It was that trio that caused Arsenal so many problems in a pre-season friendly at the Emirates earlier this month and it looks like Chelsea are ready to hit the ground running this season.

That spells trouble for a Villarreal side that are here thanks to their penalty shoot-out win over Manchester United in the final of the Europa League.

The Yellow Submarine finished the 2020/21 La Liga season down in seventh place but they are a side that scores goals, indeed they hit the target at least once in 19 of their final 20 games last term in all competitions.

The UEFA Super Cup is generally a game that produces goals; since 2012, only one team has failed to score in the standard 90 minutes of the UEFA Super Cup, and that was Sevilla in 2014.
