James Maddison reacts after Tottenham miss out on crucial opportunity
22:55 , Harry Latham-Coyle
“It’s obviously very disappointing. Any sort of result tonight would be very beneficial for us in the battle. It wasn’t to be, we pushed hard in the final 20 minutes.
“It’s obviously an awful time [to come on]. You want to get on the pitch at 1-0 and try and affect it. It is a lot more difficult at 2-0. It makes it a lot more difficult. It was a bit of a dagger when you are waiting to come on.
“I’ve been out for a long time, so I’m not going to be at my fluent best. I’ve had a massive injury, it’s one of them that you have to respect the injury a little bit. I am going to do what I can on Sunday. We are going to keep battling for our fans.
“Anyone who has been through this injury knows it is not easy to just drop back in. I want to help the team as much as I can. We’ve just got to give everything for this club. It’s unacceptable and a little bit embarrassing that we are in this position as Tottenham Hotspur, but it’s the reality."
Roberto De Zerbi on Tottenham's defeat
22:44 , Harry Latham-Coyle
“I think we played a really good game,” the Tottenham boss tells Sky Sports. “We lost. Now is not the right time to think much of this game. We have to prepare for the next game in our stadium, with our fans. We have to play with our qualities, with our character, with fight and courage. I am positive because today we played a good game."
The crucial opportunity Tottenham missed as Premier League relegation battle goes to final day
22:27 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Tottenham’s fight to avoid relegation from the Premier League will go to the final day of the season after they were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to hand 18th-place West Ham a lifeline.
A point in west London would have put an end to the Spurs nightmare that still threatens to pull them into the second tier for the first time in 48 years but they succumbed to familiar frailties, Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos scoring in each half for the Blues in entirely avoidable circumstances for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

What do Spurs and West Ham need to stay up? Premier League relegation permutations
FT: Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham
22:13 , Harry Latham-Coyle
The Tottenham players have a few furious words with the officials, still aggrieved, one presumes, about that Marc Cucurella incident – the Spaniard was booked for grappling at a corner but no penalty was awarded as the ball had not yet been delivered, according to the video assistant referee.
The relegation battle goes to the final day.
FULL TIME! Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham

Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 90 + 7 minutes
22:09 , Harry Latham-Coyle
A last chance...planted into the arms of Robert Sanchez! One Mathys Tel would want back, space worked wide on the right after a charge from Micky van de Ven but his teammate fails to produce the quality required.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 90 + 6 minutes
22:08 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Into the last knockings. It’s going to the final day, surely?
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 90 + 5 minutes
22:07 , Harry Latham-Coyle
There has just been too little of quality from Tottenham tonight. A Mathys Tel header is cushioned into the advertising hoardings behind the goal.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 90 + 4 minutes
22:06 , Harry Latham-Coyle
James Maddison....over the crossbar. By a distance.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 90 + 3 minutes
22:04 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Micky van de Ven earns a free kick 40 yards out. Chelsea deal with it effectively.
Now it is Conor Gallagher’s turn to take a tumble – this one is rather closer to goal.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 90 + 1 minutes
22:03 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Young Shim Mheuka shows he has a calm head on him by taking the ball to the corner flag after a slightly errant Enzo Fernandez pass denies him a chance to bear down directly on goal.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 90 minutes
22:02 , Harry Latham-Coyle
SEVEN additional minutes for Tottenham to find a goal that would almost certainly keep them in the Premier League.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 88 minutes
22:01 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Alejandro Garnacho, Shim Mheuka and Dario Essugo will see out the remainder of the game for Chelsea. Liam Delap, Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto are replaced.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 87 minutes
21:59 , Harry Latham-Coyle
It’s all become a bit heated. Liam Delap is booked for shoving a forearm in the face of Djed Spence as he attempts to beat the defender to a bouncing ball.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 86 minutes
21:58 , Harry Latham-Coyle
There is an awful lot going on inside that penalty area, which makes Robert Sanchez’s claim at the third attempt rather valuable. Quite the mess in the six-yard box, as per.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 85 minutes
21:57 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Now then! Stuart Attwell has brandished a yellow card to...someone. Tottenham are appealing for a penalty, seemingly for a spot of wrestling from Marc Cucurella on Micky van de Ven.
Cucurella is the man booked – did it occur before the ball was delivered? It’s tight, I think...
The officials are happy to have the corner retaken.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 84 minutes
21:56 , Harry Latham-Coyle
What a tackle from Jorrel Hato! It looked like James Maddison’s moment, beautiful interplay as he spins in behind. Is there just a momentary hesitation that betrays a player with so little football played this season? Perhaps, but it allows Hato to slide in desperately and block what looked a certain goal.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 82 minutes
21:54 , Harry Latham-Coyle
After a lot of build-up, Cole Palmer hits the wall.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 81 minutes
21:53 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Before the free-kick is taken, Mamadou Sarr replaces Wesley Fofana.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 80 minutes
21:52 , Harry Latham-Coyle
A goal could well come at the other end. Liam Delap does the hard yards to reel in a long punt forward and then bides his time, squaring to Enzo Fernandez. Pape Matar Sarr fells the Chelsea midfielder 21 yards or so out. Cole Palmer territory?
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 78 minutes
21:51 , Harry Latham-Coyle
One might have said before that Richarlison goal that it was tough to see Spurs scoring tonight, so those issues still remain. Chelsea are preparing another change, while Jaorel Hato is having an argument with referee Stuart Attwell – one which follows a yellow card, which may be for delaying the restart.
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham, 75 minutes
21:47 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Trevoh Chalobah is introduced for Josh Acheampong as Chelsea look to protect their lead and West Ham’s survival chances.
GOAL! Chelsea 2-1 TOTTENHAM (Richarlison, 73 minutes)
21:46 , Harry Latham-Coyle
There is one back! Tottenham finally find some cutting edge, though there is a stroke of luck involved – Pedro Porro works to the byline and cuts back for Pape Matar Sarr, who is surely aiming for goal as he spins and backheels.
His skew, and it does look a skew, is perfectly placed for Richarlison to tap home. Remember, a draw would almost certainly do for Spurs...
Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham, 71 minutes
21:43 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Tottenham are at home on the final day, of course, which would usually be a boost – although their away form has been far better this season.
Conor Gallagher gets a leg to a cross from Pedro Porro but can’t beat Robert Sanchez, safely behind it.
Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham, 69 minutes
21:41 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Roberto De Zerbi locks the stable door. On come Pape Matar Sarr, Djed Spence and James Maddison for Joao Palhinha, Destiny Udogie and Randal Kolo Muani, who I think was at fault for the giveaway that led to the goal.
GOAL! CHELSEA 2-0 Tottenham (Andrey Santos, 68 minutes)
21:40 , Harry Latham-Coyle
About that! Tottenham give the ball away in midfield and Chelsea pounce, doubling their lead through Andrey Santos.
It’s a neatly-taken goal, a cross from the right looping to Enzo Fernandez, who cushions it down nicely. Santos arrives with ideal timing to scuff the ball home.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 66 minutes
21:39 , Harry Latham-Coyle
A triple change is being readied for Tottenham, but they must be careful not to concede in the meantime...
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 65 minutes
21:37 , Harry Latham-Coyle
There is just so little quality in the final third from Spurs. Randal Kolo Muani is the latest culprit, playing a pass to no-one in particular having driven towards the outer reaches of the 18-yard box.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 63 minutes
21:35 , Harry Latham-Coyle
It is a surprise that Roberto De Zerbi hasn’t gone to his bench yet. How many minutes could James Maddison manage?
Destiny Udogie is a third member of the visiting back four to be booked.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 61 minutes
21:33 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Now it’s Chelsea’s chance to load the box with a free kick on the right, but Wesley Fofana is whistled for a foul as the ball comes in.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 58 minutes
21:30 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Richarlison troubles Robert Sanchez from the set-piece, though there isn’t enough oomph in his header to really test the goalkeeper. A first effort on target of the night for Tottenham.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 57 minutes
21:29 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Randal Kolo Muani gives those supporters hope, earning a corner off the shin of Marc Cucurella.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 55 minutes
21:27 , Harry Latham-Coyle
News has reached the Tottenham fans inside Stamford Bridge, who look all the more miserable. A goal here would change their circumstances, of course.
Arsenal are Premier League champions

Meanwhile – Arsenal are officially champions of the Premier League after Manchester City’s draw with Bournemouth.
Arsenal win Premier League title after 22-year wait after Man City stumble
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 52 minutes
21:24 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Tottenham really have lacked a little bit of quality in the final third tonight. Their lack of consistency in that area has been a theme of the season, with injuries to Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski, Xavi Simons and Mohammad Kudus taking their toll.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 50 minutes
21:23 , Harry Latham-Coyle
A shoddy header! The flag is up but that’s not Richarlison’s best moment, heading it more towards the corner than goal after Mathys Tel had beaten a man from a quickly-taken free kick. It wouldn’t have counted, but Richarlison should have made sure there was at least an offside check.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 48 minutes
21:20 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Tottenham’s press hasn’t been too effective tonight, but that is more like it, crowding around a Chelsea triangle and drawing an error from Andrey Santos. Alas, the throw-in earned amounts to little with Destiny Udogie putting much too much on his cross.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 46 minutes
21:18 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Chelsea start the brighter of the two teams after their re-emergence. Marc Cucurella earns a corner, which Antonin Kinsky claims in relative comfort.
Second half...
21:17 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Right, it’s looking like delight on one side of north London; will there be relief on the other? One goal, remember, would be enough, really, to clinch Tottenham’s survival.
No changes at half time.

21:04 , Harry Latham-Coyle
As things stand, then, we’re off to the final day to decide this relegation battle. An even enough game with Chelsea, largely, bringing the quality, though both sides have struck the woodwork. Enzo Fernandez’s drive from distance has the hosts ahead – and West Ham still alive, for now....
HALF TIME: Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham
21:03 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 45 + 1 minutes
21:02 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Cole Palmer soon enough whistles a low skudder past the right-hand post of Antonin Kinsky.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 45 minutes
21:01 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Not for the first time tonight, Moises Caicedo hits the deck theatrically after a very, very minor brush with Conor Gallagher. Down he goes grasping his face, conning the referee for a free kick but, thankfully, no more.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 43 minutes
20:59 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Pedro Neto swings the delivery in from the right touchline with his left foot and into the arms of Antonin Kinsky, who does well to reset his momentum and avoid retreating into his own net. A shove from Andrey Santos might have drawn greater scrutiny had the whole of the ball crossed the line.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 42 minutes
20:58 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Into the book goes Micky van de Ven as he gets tight to and then turned by Liam Delap. Van de Ven is built a bit like a long-limbed lineout forward and that was a very decent covering tackle.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 41 minutes
20:57 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Randal Kolo Muani breaks into full stride in pursuit of a forward pass down the channels, but it is much too close to an alert Robert Sanchez.
Conor Gallagher and Marc Cucurella then have what could be termed a friendly catch-up. Gallagher had barged into his former teammate, in fairness to the Chelsea man, who wasn’t best pleased and let the Tottenham midfielder know.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 39 minutes
20:54 , Harry Latham-Coyle
That left side does feel like Tottenham’s most profitable route to goal at the moment. Destiny Udogie and Mathys Tel are combining neatly enough to create an overload on Acheampong.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 37 minutes
20:52 , Harry Latham-Coyle
The development of Josh Acheampong could be fun to watch over the next few seasons. Mathys Tel appears to twice have the beating of the 20-year-old, at right-back tonight, but Acheampong twice battles back to first slide the ball away and then force a hurried, hapless shot.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 35 minutes
20:51 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Tottenham look a little short of ideas more generally, in truth.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 33 minutes
20:49 , Harry Latham-Coyle
That is so, so poor from Randal Kolo Muani. This is a forward who has played at a series of Europe’s biggest clubs and been a key part of a highly-successful France team, but his attempted cross (?) here is horrific, skewed somewhere way beyond Robert Sanchez’s goal with his intention entirely unclear.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 31 minutes
20:47 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Tottenham don’t necessarily feel they are getting the rub of the green from the officials. Destiny Udogie and Joao Palhinha each seem surprised to hear the peep of the referee’s whistle for what they deem legitimate challenges. I think the former had more of a case than the latter.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 29 minutes
20:45 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Off the crossbar! So nearly a second stunner from Enzo Fernandez, absolutely belting it at the top corner and almost finding it. Antonin Kinsky might have had it covered – though that could be charitable to the Tottenham goalkeeper.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 28 minutes
20:44 , Harry Latham-Coyle
And now Porro goes into the book for a sliding challenge on fellow Spain international full-back Marc Cucurella. A 10th booking of the season for the Tottenham defender; a free-kick in a dangerous area for Chelsea, just 10 yards or so from the byline.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 27 minutes
20:43 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Pedro Porro goes down in a heap having collided with Andrey Santos after releasing a connecting pass to Randal Kolo Muani. Nothing doing, says referee Stuart Attwell, and Porro is soon back on his feet.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 25 minutes
20:41 , Harry Latham-Coyle
It just feels like Chelsea are first to every ball at the moment. Mathys Tel has to put in a lung-busting covering run to head away a diagonal towards Pedro Neto, a position that came from Pedro Porro not putting his foot into a 50:50.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 24 minutes
20:39 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Fernandez drops deeper now and sparks an attack that springs Marc Cucurella down the left. His cut-back finds Cole Palmer, eventually, who sets up Liam Delap – but the striker can’t quite work an ideal position for a shot and blazes it away.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 22 minutes
20:38 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Tottenham just need to regain control of the game a bit. They’d started well enough and had that great Mathys Tel chance, but they are struggling to combat Chelsea’s midfield trio at the moment, with Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer both roaming well.
Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham, 20 minutes
20:36 , Harry Latham-Coyle
This could be Enzo Fernandez’s final home game in a Chelsea shirt, of course, with Real Madrid among the likely suitors in the summer. Some way to sign off if so.
GOAL! CHELSEA 1-0 Tottenham (Enzo Fernandez, 18 minutes)
20:34 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Rifled home from range and Chelsea have the lead!
Some strike from Enzo Fernandez. Tottenham give the ball away cheaply in their own half and Chelsea are alive, swarming on the opportunity. Fernandez picks the ball up in space about 30 yards out and wrong-foots Antonin Kinsky with a crisp drive that bends by two Tottenham defenders.
West Ham, you have hope.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham, 15 minutes
20:31 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Stuart Attwell has a word with Micky van de Ven after the giant Tottenham defender slides into Moises Caicedo. Caicedo goes tumbling away, although Van de Ven did get the ball first – a clean tackle of yesteryear, and just a foul now.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham, 14 minutes
20:29 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Palmed away! A crackle and a fizz to this game now, Chelsea coming forward with interest and teeing up Cole Palmer on the edge of the box. An oh-so-casual curler bends a little too close to Antonin Kinsky, who is equal to it.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham, 12 minutes
20:28 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham, 11 minutes
20:27 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Off the post! That’s superb from Tottenham, a deep cross from Pedro Porro bending on to the head of Mathys Tel. He’s not far out at all as he steers it goalwards, but off the woodwork it flies.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham, 9 minutes
20:24 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Liam Delap is a powerful chap but may regret trying his luck in the physical stakes with Kevin Danso. The Spurs defender stands his ground and leaves the Chelsea forward on the floor after their shoulder-to-shoulder.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham, 8 minutes
20:23 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Cole Palmer has begun brightly, mind. The Chelsea playmaker is getting on the ball early and often in that free role he occupies.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham, 7 minutes
20:22 , Harry Latham-Coyle
There hasn’t been a great deal of quality to the passing in this game so far. Both teams seem keen to progress the ball at speed, but are lacking in accuracy.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham, 5 minutes
20:21 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Boos for Conor Gallagher from the home support as he returns to Stamford Bridge – and the Tottenham fans might well join in after that short corner routine! It’s played to the midfielder, who dillies, dallies, dances and does not deliver. A complete waste having brought up the burly men.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham, 4 minutes
20:19 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Oof! Nearly a nasty moment for Jarrel Hato, jutting out a leg to cut out a brilliant-looking ball from Pedro Porro and almost turning into his own net. A corner.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham, 2 minutes
20:18 , Harry Latham-Coyle
It looks like a back four for Chelsea after utilising a base three for the FA Cup final. Pedro Neto is providing the width on the right.
Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham, 1 minute
20:17 , Harry Latham-Coyle
A first save for Robert Sanchez, again sporting the Petr Cech rugby-style scrum cap, and it is a simple one, a deflection from Moises Caicedo’s shin taking the sting out of a Randal Kolo Muani cross.

Interim Chelsea manager Calum McFarlane revealed ahead of this game that Xabi Alonso had been in touch to check in ahead of his arrival this summer.
“It doesn’t surprise me,” he said of Alonso’s willingness to come to Chelsea. “It’s a massive club, we’ve got really exciting players, some of the best players in the world. They’ve shown at times the quality that we have. It’s a massive club and it will always attract top players and top managers.
“He sent me a text message yesterday, I’ll keep that private. Mainly around the final. We’ve had a brief conversation by text.
“Everyone at the club is excited. A great coach, had a really good career so far, won major trophies. A great playing career. He will have a lot of respect form everyone. It’s a really exciting appointment.”

Fair play to Antonin Kinsky. This season could have been bleak for him after Igor Tudor’s cruel axing of the goalkeeper in the first half of the Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid, but he’s battled back and now squeezes out Guglielmo Vicario on merit.

Chelsea boss Calum McFarlane urges caution over Levi Colwill
17:45 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Chelsea interim head coach Calum McFarlane warned Levi Colwill would need to be “managed” following his return from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The defender was tipped by Alan Shearer for inclusion in England’s World Cup squad after an impressive showing in Saturday’s FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City, only his second start of the season.
It would be a risk for Thomas Tuchel to include the 23-year-old, who made his first appearance since July as a second-half substitute during Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on 4 May, but speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Shearer suggested Colwill “might have played his way into the England squad” at Wembley.
He has played 90 minutes in each of the Blues’ last two matches, having also started the 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.
“We need to be careful with Levi,” said McFarlane. “He’s coming off a very serious injury. He’s performed well in those two games. We have to manage him.
“It’s been great to have Levi back. Great for English football. We’ve got a really talented, really high-potential player.
“He’s shown really good mental strength and character to come through (injury) and perform away at Anfield and in an FA Cup final. Really excited about Levi. He’s added a lot off the pitch as well as on it.”
Roberto De Zerbi
17:35 , Harry Latham-Coyle
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has called on his players to use taunts from their rivals as motivation in the fight against relegation from the Premier League.
"We have to find new motivation from this pressure," the Italian manager told reporters on Monday.
"If everyone wants Tottenham relegated, it's a big motivation for me and I hope for my players as well. We have to accept that football is nice because of the rivalry. It's good to imagine ourselves celebrating the win in their stadium...
"The pride is amazing motivation. The pride, if everyone wants Tottenham relegated, I think for one Tottenham player, one Tottenham fan, all the people who work inside Tottenham, it has to be the biggest motivation."

It’s been a perilous few months for Tottenham Hotspur as they’ve sought to avert a shock relegation from the Premier League, but their fate could be settled tonight. Victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge would make certain of safety at West Ham’s expense – but this is a ground where Spurs have a wretched record.
Kick off is at 8.15pm BST.
