Chelsea were left with plenty of questions to answer following a record 8-2 aggregate defeat to holders Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last-16.
After losing the first-leg 5-2 in Paris last week, early goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola effectively ending the tie as a contest as the French side cruised through.
A third PSG goal – courtesy of Senny Mayulu – confirmed the club’s joint-heaviest aggregate defeat in the Champions League, pilling further pressure on manager Liam Rosenior as the Blues battle for a potentially vital top-five finish.
And afterwards, key midfielder Enzo Fernandez hinted that he could seek a move away from Chelsea in the summer, telling ESPN Argentina: “I don’t know. There are eight games left [of the Premier League season] and the FA Cup. There’s the World Cup and then we’ll see.”
Rosenior, who also saw defender Trevor Chalobah stretchered off, responded to Fernandez’s comments by saying: “It's hard for me to speak on speculation after a game and I need to focus right now on the most important things, which is making sure we get a result against Everton on Saturday.”

Liam Rosenior is under pressure already after Champions League debacle against PSG turns toxic
11:20 , Lawrence OstlereThe players emerged to packed stands on every side of Stamford Bridge. The Champions League music tingled. Flamethrowers lit up the sky. The night bristled with possibility for approximately five minutes.
Then PSG started playing and Chelsea crumbled. Mamadou Sarr blinked at a high ball like the dying sun before miscontrolling into the path of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who whipped a first-time finish beyond Robert Sanchez. The energy drained out of the stadium. There would be groans, ironic cheers, boos and expletives hurled into the night sky before the end of this damning 3-0 defeat.

'Hard for me to speak on speculation': Rosenior responds to Fernandez comments
08:02 , Jamie BraidwoodChelsea boss Liam Rosenior said it is “hard to speak on speculation” after Enzo Fernandez refused to commit his future to the Blues and hinted at seeking a move elsewhere after this summer’s World Cup.
“Firstly, I haven't seen that,” he said. “It's hard for me to speak on speculation after a game and I need to focus right now on the most important things, which is making sure we get a result against Everton on Saturday.”

Trevoh Chalobah suffers concerning ankle injury as Chelsea exit Champions League
07:57 , Lawrence OstlereChelsea will wait on tests to assess the extent of the damage to key defender Trevoh Chalobah, after he was carried off the field on a stretcher at the end of the Blues’ 3-0 Champions League defeat by PSG on Tuesday evening.
The centre-back went down in clear discomfort in the final minutes of the match. The defender was carried off the pitch in apparent pain, and joins James and Gusto on the injury list, with what his manager Liam Rosenior suggested was sprained ankle ligaments.
Rosenior told TNT Sports: “I just asked the medical team, he's got a high ankle sprain, so I'm praying it's nothing too serious because of the way Trevoh's been performing and we can't afford to lose another defender at this moment."

Enzo Fernandez hints at Chelsea departure after Champions League exit
07:10 , Lawrence OstlereEnzo Fernandez has hinted he could seek a move away from Chelsea this summer.
The Blues’ vice-captain was speaking after Chelsea’s 3-0 thrashing by PSG at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, which sealed an 8-2 humiliation at the hands of the European champions. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola scored early goals to kill any hope of a dramatic comeback, before substitute Senny Mayulu added a third in the second half.
Fernandez joined Chelsea for £107m as one of BlueCo’s first major transfers. He has been one of the team’s best performers in an underwhelming season so far, with 12 goals and six assists in 45 appearances, but the midfielder refused to commit his future to the club.
Asked where he would be playing next season, Fernandez told ESPN Argentina: “I don’t know. There are eight games left [of the Premier League season] and the FA Cup. There’s the World Cup and then we’ll see.”

Joe Cole questions ‘strategy and direction’ at Chelsea after humbling 8-2 defeat to PSG
07:00 , Chris WilsonFormer Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has questioned the direction of the club and the strategy of the current ownership after the Blues crashed out of the Champions League with an embarrassing 8-2 defeat at the hands of PSG.
Liam Rosenior’s side had high hopes for a comeback after last week’s 5-2 loss in Paris but they found themselves behind after less than six minutes as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia pounced on a mistake from Mamadou Sarr to poke past Rob Sanchez.
And while the tie was already effectively over, Bradley Barcola added a second around 15 minutes in before a Senny Mayulu goal in the second half was the final blow in a 3-0 loss on a chastening night for the hosts.

Chelsea knocked out of Champions League after second-leg defeat to holders PSG
06:00 , Chris WilsonChelsea’s interest in the Champions League came to a sobering end as Paris St Germain won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to dump the Blues out 8-2 on aggregate in the last 16.
It was a merciless display of clinical finishing from the holders as they built on last week’s pummelling in the Parc des Princes to send the home side to their joint-heaviest aggregate defeat in Europe.
As in the first leg, Liam Rosenior’s side were undone by their own careless mistakes and a moment of breathtaking PSG quality.

Sporting Lisbon seal historic Champions League comeback to end Bodo/Glimt fairytale
04:00 , Chris WilsonSporting Lisbon achieved a remarkable feat, becoming only the fifth team to overturn a three-goal first-leg deficit in the Champions League knockout rounds, securing a 5-3 aggregate win over Bodo/Glimt.
The Portuguese club had been swept aside 3-0 in the Arctic Circle last week. However, a stunning 5-0 win after extra time at Estadio Jose Alvalade on Tuesday propelled Sporting into the quarter-finals for the first time since 1982-83.
Defender Goncalo Inacio initiated the fightback, heading in from a corner in the 34th minute. Luis Suarez then teed up Pedro Goncalves to score in the 61st minute, with Suarez then levelling the tie from the penalty spot in the 78th minute.

Arsenal’s season has passed a turning point — and the best could still be to come
03:00 , Chris WilsonMinimum fuss in the end, as Arsenal still go for the maximum. It could genuinely be a unique season, as they also may end up the only English club left in the Champions League.
For now, an already good week got even better, as this 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen didn’t just put them into the Champions League quarter-final; it puts them in a good place ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, which may yet be the first of four trophies this season.
Winning the actual quadruple is of course still a fantasy - the sheer number of games tend to catch up with you - but every match right now is making the vision that bit more real.

Manchester City’s failure to conquer the real kings of Europe raises a huge Pep Guardiola question
02:00 , Chris WilsonAdios to Manchester City, perhaps forever to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Champions League. If this was the end for a man defined by both this competition and his Barcelona past, it was a sadly fitting exit. For the third year in a row, for the fourth season in five, Real Madrid have knocked City out. This has almost become part of City’s spring; a part Guardiola may not miss.
This was the brutality and the brilliance of the Champions League knockout stages. City made an epic effort even if, in the final reckoning, they never came close to completing the greatest of comebacks. It was compelling to the last, but decided in 23 minutes before the break in Madrid. City lost over 90 minutes, as they did over 180, beaten by Fede Valverde’s treble in the Bernabeu and Vinicius Jr’s brace in Manchester.

Was defeat to Real Madrid the end of Guardiola’s Man City in the Champions League?

Hargreaves: 'They’ll do well to finish in the top five'
Tuesday 17 March 2026 23:10 , Chris WilsonA final word from Owen Hargreaves on TNT:
“If they can win the FA Cup and finish in the top five, they’ve had a good season.
“But if you look at those fixtures, City, Man Utd, Liverpool away. They’re really difficult, they’ll do well to finish in the top five.
“They need to turn it around. This is not on Liam [Rosenior], they’ve got a very young team but they need to do it.
“You see all those fixtures, if they can find a way to win the FA Cup and finish in the top five that would salvage the season”.
Enrique: 'We are improving our level'
Tuesday 17 March 2026 22:58 , Chris WilsonLuis Enrique was last to speak to TNT Sports after the final whistle:
“It has been a tough season, a lot of players injured, a lot of matches, it’s always difficult to win every single match but that’s our condition, everyone wants us to win every single match and that’s impossible in football.
“But we are happy, we’re in the last part of the season, the most crucial time, and I think we are recovering players, we are keeping our level and improving our level, and that’s positive.
On the options available to him, he added: “The problem is for them, not for me! I’m happy to have these types of players, every time I choose different players they perform. That’s the mentality of the team.”

Hargreaves: 'You need experienced players'
Tuesday 17 March 2026 22:48 , Chris WilsonHere’s some reaction from Owen Hargeeaves on TNT Sports:
“The club should want to win the biggest trophies, the Premier League, and the Champions League. Right now they're miles off it.
“They signed some brillliant yoiung players, but they’ve got too many young players. All these great Chelsea teams, they’ve had world class experienced players, John Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Makelele, Essien.
“It’s great to have these kids, but you need experienced players. The guys who own this football club and buying the players, they have to understand that.
“You can’t be having three academy kids starting in the back four against the European champions. It’s impossible.
“8-2 over two legs, it’s too much,” he added.

Kvaratskhelia: 'It was an important win for us tonight'
Tuesday 17 March 2026 22:38 , Chris Wilson“It’s important when you come to this kind of stadium, you need an atmosphere to win the game. It’s very important for us and we just have to gain our confidence back,” says Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on TNT.
“It was an important win for us tonight and we are really happy about that, but we have to continue. We have to be focused for our next games.
“We know that we are capable of anything, but it’s difficult. We have many games ahead, we just have to play our games and be focused, We have to work hard and continue like this.,” he added.

More from Cole
Tuesday 17 March 2026 22:32 , Chris WilsonHere’s more from former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole:
“There’s a lot of money being spent and we need to really think of what we’re doing and how we’re doing it. That’s simply not good enough.
“There’s 20-year-olds and 19-year-olds on the pitch today. There’s time to grow, improve and get better.
“They’ll have better nights in their career. But as a football club, you’ve got to go football club first, not business first. Simple as that, or else you’ll get performances like that.”
Cole: Chelsea 'a million miles away'
Tuesday 17 March 2026 22:27 , Chris Wilson“That is a real leveller of where this club is compared to Paris,” says Joe Cole on TNT Sports.
“PSG are the gold standard, they are the champions of Europe, but it showed that Chelsea are a million miles away over the course of two legs.
“This isn’t a Liam Rosenior problem. Liam’s doing what he’s doing, he’s just come through the door.
“This is a problem with strategy and the direction of where the club are going. This is a real eye-opener to where we are as a club at the moment.”

Rosenior: 'You have to trust them'
Tuesday 17 March 2026 22:14 , Chris WilsonHere’s more from Rosenior on TNT:
On Mamadou Sarr: "Mamadou, he's a very good player, but we missed our two starting right-backs. There are times when you have to put players in and you have to trust them. It took the wind out of our sails.
On Trevoh Chalobah injury: "Trevoh, I just asked the medical team. He's got a high ankle sprain, so I'm praying it's nothing too serious because we can't lose another defender.
"When you go through a difficult run, you have to make sure your habits are right. We have a really difficult game at Everton and we have to be at our best to get a result there,” he added.
FULL-TIME! Chelsea 0-3 PSG
Tuesday 17 March 2026 22:10 , Chris WilsonHere’s what Liam Rosenior has to say after that result:
"A tough night. We knew it was a tough ask and to start the game in the manner that we did. We had the ball in the final third. you cna't make mistakes at this level. We had the ball in their box and Barcola hit one from 25 yards into the top corner. Their belief grows.
“They were clinical. The third goal, ball breaks and he hits in the top corner. I haven't looked at the stats yet, but we had a lot of shots. They didn't make mistakes. I want to thank the fans because they saw how hard the lads worked,” he added.

Tuesday 17 March 2026 20:10 , Chris WilsonReaction from Lawrence Ostlere, who’s in place at Stamford Bridge:

Chelsea hit with suspended transfer ban and £10m fine for breaching Premier League rules
Tuesday 17 March 2026 19:10 , Chris WilsonThe Blues have been in the news this week...
Chelsea have been hit with a suspended transfer ban and a huge £10.75m fine after reaching a settlement over Premier League rules breaches.
The club has also been hit with an immediate nine-month academy transfer ban, with the one-year first-team ban suspended for two years.
The Blues voluntarily reported potential historical breaches of rules in 2022, and an independent commission has now concluded its findings.
