The first two months of the new Premier League season were as good and unpredictable as advertised, and with the English league back this weekend after the international break, there are quite a few interesting matchups ahead this weekend. One of them takes place at Stamford Bridge. After a bit of a tricky start, things are looking much better for Frank Lampard and Chelsea, who have four wins and one loss in their last six Premier League games and are riding a four-game winning streak in all competitions. Lampard is looking more and more comfortable as a manager, Tammy Abraham cannot stop scoring, the other youngsters are all playing well, and the fans are very optimistic. The challenge for Chelsea is consistency, and an easy way to achieve that is to win home games against teams you’re supposed to beat. This is the scenario this weekend, and the Blues must show some strength.
But Newcastle aren’t pushovers and will love to play the role of spoiler in London for a second time this season. The Magpies beat Tottenham Hotspur on the road earlier this season thanks to a fantastic defensive performance and a clinical attack, and they’ll be hoping to do the same again. The win against Manchester United before the international break was a big confidence boost and bought manager Steve Bruce more time and more patience from the fans, but that could change quickly with another run of bad results. Newcastle will go into Stamford Bridge thinking they can get a result, while Chelsea will look for a big home win.
