Jamie Carragher has been forced to admit he was wrong about Paul Pogba as the Manchester United star continued his resurgence under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Frenchman was once again outstanding making one goal and scoring another as United knocked holders Chelsea out of the FA Cup with an impressive display at Stamford Bridge.
Pogba has returned to form following the sacking of Jose Mourinho in December forcing a number of onlookers, including Carragher, to rethink their position.
“I don’t know if he’s worth the hassle for what he gives on the pitch. And there’s an idea that it’s one or the other. If Mourinho goes you won’t see a new Pogba, I can assure Manchester United fans of that,” Carragher told Sky Sports back in September.
“He’s not as a good as he thinks he is. He’s got talent but his big problem is his understanding of the game. It’s been a problem since he arrived and it hasn’t changed now.”
When his comments were put back to him on Twitter following Monday night’s game Carragher was quick to praise Pogba’s performances.
“Well I hope you completely disagreed at the time & not just now?!!,” he said. “He’s been a revelation since OGS came in because he’s basically let him play without defending.
“I didn’t see this turn around so I have no problem saying I was wrong.”
Solskjaer was impressed with what he saw from Pogba and was pleased with how he responded after the Champions League defeat to PSG last week, a game which saw him sent off late on.
“He had a tough game against PSG but he was probably our best player then,” Solskjaer said afterwards. “He had two or three players around him all the time.
“Tonight [Monday] was a great response, playing against one of the best defensive midfielders in the world with [N’Golo] Kante next to him.
“We know he’s one of the best attacking midfielders in the world. He has vision, so the cross for Ander’s goal was fantastic.
“Then the way he plays the ball out to Marcus [Rashford] and gets into the box for the second was fantastic, too.”
