Chelsea vs Man City prediction: Olivier Giroud backed to score first

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has spoken about Man City's squad depth ahead of their clash at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard, who played for both clubs, dismissed the idea it's an ambition of his to have something similar but that rotation is necessary.

He said: "I wouldn’t say it is necessarily an ambition. When a club is involved in so many competitions like City generally are and ourselves generally are; I think it is a reality to have rotation.

"Also, it is the amount of hard work that Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have put in as a club over the last four years to add players to the squad and develop their own; with Phil Foden’s performance the other night and to work on the training ground. So you can be fluid and players know their roles.

"That comes with work and that comes with time. We are in a different phase. When you are working and people can fill in that’s exactly where you want to get to.

"They have such a strong squad and individuals that fair play, they can do that.and maintain a high level of performance. Of course, every club wants that."

Recommended bets:

  • Man City to win 3-1 - 12/1
  • Olivier Giroud to score first - 6/1

Win, lose or draw?

Manchester City have restarted the Premier League in blistering form and their wins over Arsenal and Burnley were commanding.

It would be a really tough ask for Chelsea to get something out of the game and so it has to be a City win.

Obviously, home matches don’t have the same impact with no crowds, so unfortunately I would go for a Man City 3-1 win (12/1).

Who's a good bet for 1st scorer?

The last fixture between the two saw a surprising first scorer in N’Golo Kante, but I don’t think he’ll be first this time.

With no Sergio Aguero, the onus might fall on Gabriel Jesus. However, I will go for Olivier Giroud in getting things under way (6/1).

Who's on pens?

If Jorginho (11/2 anytime) starts, then it will be the Italy international. However, if he doesn’t make the starting XI then it’s likely Willian (9/2) will step up.

Will your team keep a clean sheet?

The Blues have struggled to keep clean sheets this season and the win over Aston Villa on Sunday suggests there are still issues for the Blues at the back.

City have looked clinical in the restart and if the chances fall, and I think they will, then they should find the back of the net.

So, no clean sheet for Chelsea ( 1/7 ) this time around.
