Chelsea vs Man City pivotal on Romelu Lukaku's road to Man Utd redemption after Tottenham blank

Romelu Lukaku looks set to start this weekend for Chelsea against Manchester City following his fine run of form.

The Belgium international completed a £97.5million return to the Blues last month and has been in scintillating form since moving back to west London.

Lukaku was partly rested on Wednesday evening in Chelsea's Carabao Cup victory over Aston Villa, although he did come on for the final quarter of an hour of the tie.

All in all, though, Lukaku should be largely fresh for the trip of the Premier League champions in a game that could be huge in this season's title race, albeit this early on into the campaign.

Manchester City coming to west London represents a chance for Lukaku to silence some of his old critics from his Manchester United days.

When the Belgian was at Old Trafford, he scored just one goal against the so-called big six, and was often criticised for not being the same against the top teams in the Premier League.

The 'big six' of course include: Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Lukaku did manage to find the back of the net on his second Chelsea debut against Arsenal last month, but drew a blank against Spurs in last weekend's win.

The 28-year-old striker scored just one goal in the Serie A against Juventus during his time with Inter Milan. Lukaku's record against city rivals AC Milan, though, was exceptional, with the former Inter man scoring five goals in as many appearances in all competitions.

This Saturday is the perfect opportunity for Lukaku to silence some of his old critics by finding the net against last term's champions, and one of the teams likely to challenge the Blues for the Premier League title season.

The Belgium striker has scored five goals in 16 appearances in all competitions against Saturday's opponents City.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will be desperate for his star striker to come up trumps at the weekend in a game that is likely to be very tight.

However, City come into the match not in the best of form after being held to a goalless draw at home to Southampton last weekend, but Pep Guardiola will be determined to make a statement at Stamford Bridge.
